The Global Financial Centres Index 1

GFCI 1 is the first report from the biannual index of competitiveness, ranking 46 world financial centres. The first Global Financial Centres Index (GFCI) ranks London and New York as the leading centres, followed by Hong Kong, Singapore and Zurich. London has a narrow lead over New York, but the two together are significantly ahead of the rest of the field to be the only true global financial centres. This first, seminal, report was launched at MIPIM in Cannes on 15 March 2007.

The Global Financial Centres Index (GFCI) was first produced by the Z/Yen Group in March 2007 following another research project into city competitiveness undertaken in 2005 and published as "The Competitive Position Of London As A Global Financial Centre". The aim of the GFCI is to examine the major financial centres globally in terms of competitiveness. The GFCI has been published every six months (although the index is actually produced every three months). Find out more about later editions of the GFCI in the Financial Centre Futures Publications section.
