We’re poised between two futures. One: a breakthrough future of chaos, conflict and collapse. The other: a breakthrough future of safety, restoration, and flourishing. The choice between them starts in our minds. Whether we’re able to manage our mental states, at a moment of extraordinary turbulence. Whether we react to people who disagree with us with empathy or enmity. Whether we see ourselves as part of a polarised them-and-us, or an inclusive Larger Us. Join Alex Evans to explore how psychology and politics are converging to shape the 21st century.
Speaker:
Alex Evans is the author of The Myth Gap: What Happens When Evidence and Arguments Aren’t Enough?, a book about the power of deep stories to overcome political polarisation and unlock systemic social and political change; a senior fellow at New York University; and founder of Larger Us, a non-profit startup exploring ways of working for a larger us rather than a them-and-us world at the places where psychology and politics meet.
Until March 2018, Alex was a Campaign Director at Avaaz, the 50 million member global citizens’ movement, where he ran its Brexit campaign as well as work on tax havens and human rights. He has previously been a special adviser to two UK Cabinet ministers, a policy expert in the UN Secretary-General’s office, and a research fellow for organisations from the Brookings Institution to the US National Intelligence Council.
