The Financial Services sector was roundly vilified after the 2007 Crash. With COVID-19, governments have taken the lead and the present failure of FS to really step up to proactively offer credit solutions that ease the disproportionate burden on medium and smaller businesses and, of course, the vast swathes of working people, might be owing to a gradual erosion of purpose over two decades or more. In the 1990s there was a new fashion in business to emphasize value-based management and total shareholder returns. In itself this was a good discipline and rewarded many of the businesses (and executives) who pursued it with vigour. Value based management became the rage and, to a very large extent, the substitute purpose of financial services entities. We know where that led in 2007.
The question now is whether and how the industry, the leaders of individual FS firms and their key decision-makers can re-think and regain a meaningful purpose -- especially in what they offer to customers and society.
In this webinar, Dr Paul Taffinder examines how this could be achieved.
