The last few years have seen massive changes in payments with the rise of mobile, contactless and faster payments. Most recently, Open APIs and blockchain are actively being discussed as game changers in the payments game. What will this mean for UK players like VocaLink and CHAPS, and how is the payments regulator playing in the game. To provide a perspective Maurice Cleaves, CEO of Payments UK, joins us for an evening of contemplation of the year ahead.
Maurice has over 35 years of experience within the banking industry and started his banking career at Barclays retail bank in the late 1970’s. Most recently Maurice was back at Barclays Bank where he was Global Head of Cash Management, Managing Director, and a member of the Corporate Bank Exco with a co-head responsibility for all products. During his career Maurice has also held a number of positions within the industry including Chairman of the IBOS Association, Director of SWIFT UK, CHAPS and on the Payments Council Board (2008-2010).
Payments UK is the payments industry’s representative body: providing an authoritative voice in the UK, Europe and globally, and working with stakeholders to share payments knowledge and expertise.
