Background: Afua Kyei and Tangy Morgan were honoured on the Powerlist 2023 '100 most influential Britons of black heritage’. Afua is the Bank's Chief Financial Officer and the Bank's co-executive sponsor for Diversity and Inclusion. Tangy is the Bank’s Senior Advisor to the Prudential Regulation Committee. They share their story with FS Club CEO Mike Wardle, as Financial Service leaders who have broken the glass ceilings in their respective areas of Banking, Finance, Regulation & Insurance. The importance of Diversity and Representation is ever increasing as organisations navigate through an ever changing world.

Diversity & Inclusion is a Strategic Priority at the Bank of England. Tangy and Afua share the approaches taken, the challenges and benefits of implementing DE&I in organisations for the good of society.

Speakers:

Afua Kyei is the Bank's Chief Financial Officer and Executive Director responsible for Finance, Strategy, Performance, and Tax. She is co-Executive sponsor for Diversity and Inclusion and the Bank’s climate change disclosure. Afua joined in June 2019 and oversees the financial governance of the Bank’s balance sheet, which, grew to over £1 trillion during the Covid pandemic. She is a Director of the Bank’s Asset Purchase Facility Fund, Alternative Liquidity Facility, Covid Corporate Financing Facility, and helped operationalise the Energy Markets Financing Scheme. She is a member of the Bank’s Executive Board overseeing the upgrade of the UK’s Real Time Gross Settlement System, which processes over £775bn payments each day. Afua was awarded CFO of the Year 2021 by the Women in Finance Awards UK. She was in the Cranfield FTSE Board Report '100 Women to watch 2022' and was a 2022 listee in the Kindness & Leadership, 50 Leading Lights UK campaign. She was honoured on the Powerlist 2023 '100 most influential Britons of black heritage’ and was also named in the '2023 list of 100 Most Reputable Africans' by Reputation Poll International. Afua joined the Bank from Barclays Bank (2012-2019) where she was the CFO Mortgages and played a key role in Barclays’ strategic cost transformation program, whilst a Finance Director in the Investment Bank and in Group COO. She was an Investment Banker at UBS in London and Zurich during the financial crisis 2007-2012 after qualifying as a Chartered Accountant at E&Y. Afua graduated from Oxford University with a Masters in Chemistry and was a Junior Research Fellow of Organic Chemistry at Princeton University.

Tangy C. Morgan has over 35 years in the global (re)insurance industry in the US and global catastrophe liability marketplace. Her career in the financial services sector includes working for such companies as Chubb, Guy Carpenter, AIG, and Corporation of Lloyd’s. Prior to her (re)insurance career, she worked in the petroleum industry. Currently, she is an independent Senior Advisor to the Bank of England (PRA), advising on issues such as business models, underwriting, board governance, solvency and capital modelling, regulation, organisational resiliency, technology and diversity and inclusion.

The Powerlist named her as one of the 100 most influential Black people living in the UK. She contributed to the book Black & Great: A Workplace Toolkit by Rene Germain, a UK bestseller.

Tangy is a frequent speaker in the UK and internationally speaking on issues of board governance, the impact of technology on traditional business models and sustainability, algorithmic bias as well as diversity and inclusion. She is both a mentor and investor in multiple fintech start-ups. Her current board and advisory memberships include: Boston University Alumni Council (Governance and Engagement Committees), InsurerCore Ltd, Cachet (Estonia), STEM Learning UK, Ltd Advisory Panel, Strategia Worldwide Ltd. Tangy is active with several civic and philanthropic organisations in the US and UK.

She has a B.A. in Business Management from Tennessee State University, Nashville, TN and M.S. in Business Continuity, Security and Risk Management from Boston University. She is a dual citizen of the UK and US.
