There has been a significant amount of research looking at decision-making in pensions. However, the vast majority of this work has focused on individuals e.g. asset allocation in DC pensions. Given trustees make decisions that influence the retirement outcomes of millions, understanding biases in their decision-making is essential, given the disproportionate impact that biased decisions could have in this setting. This seminar will provide an overview of our results from a project funded by the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries that examines behavioural bias in trustee decision-making.
Speaker: Iain Clacher, Associate Professor in Accounting and Finance at Leeds University Business School. He is an expert on pensions and retirement saving and his work covers retirement decision making, pension fund investment, infrastructure investing, sustainable pension systems, trustee governance, and fund management costs and fees.
