Alipay is China’s PayPal on steroids. It’s growth has been simply phenomenal and when the parent company, Alibaba, spun off Alipay and its financial siblings as Ant Financial, the IPO valued the firm at $60 billion. That is the world’s largest FinTech unicorn, and makes Ant the equivalent of two Barclays Banks by value.
Now going global, Alipay aspires to have 2 billion users within the next decade. Currently with 500 million users, who now use the Alipay mobile payments checkout service more than cash, its story is something to watch with wonder. Tonight, you can hear that story first hand from the Head of Alipay Europe, Rita Liu.
Rita is responsible for Alipay's overall business in the region, overseeing Alipay’s business development, operations and marketing activities. Rita joined Alipay in 2010 and was initially responsible for driving partnerships with major Chinese banks. In 2012, she became one of the founding members of the Alipay international business department, and has since undertaken different roles within the company, in particular, taking responsibility for business development and partnerships in various regions including Asia, U.S and Europe. Prior to joining Alipay, Rita worked with American Express as business development manager.
